Collagen is also essential for skin elasticity, helping to keep the skin taut and ensure the continuous renewal of skin cells. The body is capable of producing collagen itself, but as we age, its production slows down, leading to a weakening of cell structure. After the age of 25, the body’s production of collagen decreases significantly. The production of collagen is also inhibited by lifestyle habits, such as smoking, excessive sunbathing and an unhealthy diet. When collagen is depleted, wrinkles start to appear, the skin loosens and even joint pain can develop. There are therefore many reasons why collagen should be part of your daily diet.

Collagen can lead to loss of blood sugar and skin aging.

Collagen is not only involved in “building” but also in repair processes. It contributes to the effective healing of various skin injuries such as wounds, scratches, scars and burns. In addition, it also plays an important role in maintaining bone strength and preventing osteoporosis.

Around 1–10% of muscle tissue is made up of collagen, which is needed to keep muscles strong. Collagen stimulates the synthesis of muscle protein creatine and stimulates muscle growth after exercise.

How to use: add 2 teaspoons of collagen to water or your favourite smoothie. When adding to water, mix well and let stand for 2 minutes to allow the collagen to dissolve (it dissolves better in warmer liquids, but may pull apart slightly in colder liquids). You can also add collagen to your (morning) coffee or tea instead of cream. It greatly softens the strong flavour of the coffee, while adding a nutty sweetness without changing the colour of the coffee.
